Ethan Peterson is just 11 years old, so when he was staying up late in the middle of the night to play video games on his Play Station 4, had his aunt and uncle found out they might have been a little peeved. Little did they know, the boy's sneakiness would save all of their lives.
Ethan was playing with an online friend and communicating through a microphone. His friend told him he could hear a beeping sound in Ethan's house. Ethan quickly took off his headphones and could see the smoke alarm was going off. He saw huge flames in the kitchen. He ran upstairs screaming fire to wake up his aunt and uncle. Then he ran to wake up his cousin, Julius. When Julius wouldn't wake up, as the smoke rose, Ethan ran outside with his aunt and uncle.
Realizing Julius was still in the flaming house, his uncle quickly went back in to get Julius who they feared had died when he wouldn't wake up. But once they got him out of the house, they realized all was well. Everyone was alive, fine, and accounted for all thanks to a little boy and his video games. The whole family sees Ethan as a hero.
"I'm glad that my son was smart enough to go and wake up the parents you know and try to wake up his little cousin," said his mother, Amy Escobedo. "I'm really proud of my son, he's really — he's a hero."
