Fall is my absolute favorite time of year, and it always has been.
As a kid, fall was my favorite because it was when I got to celebrate my birthday, but as I got older, I realized fall is the best season for so many different reasons.
In addition to marking the end of (often brutally hot) summers, fall also marks the beginning of the school year and the start of the holiday season (it'll be Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas before you know it!).
Every autumn, I make a fall bucket list of all the things I want to do — apple picking, pumpkin carving, pie baking — but I somehow run out of time and never get through my list.
If you're always disappointed that you didn't get to do some of your favorite activities before winter starts, you need to make this adorable fall bucket list craft.
And the best part? It's actually a bucket!
Supplies
- small metal bucket
- large popsicle sticks
- clip-on chalkboard sign
- chalk or chalk pen
- permanent marker
- fall-colored paints
- paintbrushes
- paper/notebook
- fall decorations (ribbon, stickers, magnets)
- fall-colored stones
Instructions Step #1: Paint Popsicle Sticks
To begin, pick out your favorite "fall" colored paints — reds, yellows, oranges, purples, and browns are usually best.
Using a paintbrush, paint about 20 popsicle sticks in a variety of colors. Set them aside to dry.
Step #2: Make A List Of Fall Activities
While the popsicle sticks are drying, make a list of your favorite fall activities. Here are some suggestions:
- go apple picking
- have a bonfire
- make s’mores
- drink apple cider
- visit a pumpkin patch
- go on a hayride
- go into a corn maze
- carve a pumpkin
- eat pumpkin seeds
- bake a fall pie
- make leaf art
- play in a pile of leaves
- host a Halloween movie night
- have a football party
- make a pinecone bird feeder
- eat a caramel/candy apple
Step #3: Write Activities On Popsicle Sticks
After the popsicle sticks have completely dried, transfer your list of fall activities onto the popsicle sticks.
If you want to, you can even make certain colors mean certain things (like red=no cost, yellow=outdoors, and so on).
Step #4: Decorate The Bucket
Next, decorate the bucket!
If you're doing this activity with kids, this is a great step for them to get involved with.
Use ribbons, stickers, or magnets to spruce up the outside of the bucket.
Step #5: Fill The Bucket With Rocks
Once you're satisfied with the bucket's decorations, fill the bucket with your colorful stones.
If you want to use something else instead of stones, you could use wrapped candies, coffee beans, or acorns.
Step #6: Put The Popsicle Sticks Into The Bucket
Next, slide all of your popsicle sticks into the bucket.
The stones should keep all the popsicle sticks upright, so that you can grab them easily!
Step #7: Write “Fall Bucket List” On Chalkboard
On your miniature chalkboard, write "fall bucket list" in pretty handwriting.
Although you know what the bucket is for, friends who see the bucket will love the little chalkboard label.
Step #8: Use Bucket For Fall Activity Inspiration
Even though we may want to do all these activities each fall, life often gets in the way.
Next time you find yourself spending a weekend at home watching television, reach for one of your activities and get going!
