Wildfire Victim Thought American Flag Burned Until He Found It Saved And Folded By Firefighters

Everyone's worst nightmare is losing everything in a fire. In fact, watching your home go down in flames is something most people wouldn't even wish on their worst enemies.

Unfortunately, in some parts of the country, wildfires have a tendency to devastate entire regions. Most recently, Northern California has been under a cloud of smoke.

According to NBC News, half of the states most destructive fires have occurred in October, making this years no exception.

Thanks to fair warning, most families are able to evacuate their most prized possessions (each other) in time to stay safe.

That being said, some people have to take extreme measures to do so, like this couple who had to hide in their neighbors pool for 6 hours while their house burned down.

In such cases, the most upsetting things to lose are those with sentimental value, like the 15 foot American flag that one fire victim recently believed was lost forever.

Cherokee, California local, Cade Boeger thought his American flag was going to be eaten by the flames, until he discovered something incredible.

Cade Boeger and his family live in Cherokee, California which has been affected by wildfires.

Despite the damage, Cade did manage to find a silver lining, and he shared his story on Facebook's Love What Matters page.

He shares:

At 10:30 last night, with the family safely evacuated, I realized my horses weren’t safe from the fast moving fire that was devouring our ranch. I got back up to my house as a second Cal-Fire engine arrived in my yard, and my 15′ Old Glory was snapping in the wind, blowing 40 gusting to 60+.

I wanted to pull it down, sure it would burn up, or be torn to shreds in the wind, but there wasn’t time. The fire line was moving fast, and I whistled the horses through a gate and got them onto safer ground.

The rest of the night and morning was a blur, but when I got into my still-standing house at around 3:30 am, I was blown away to see my flag, folded respectfully and placed safely on my couch by the firemen. It’s was a little frayed and sooty, but the gesture meant so much I just stood and looked at it with tears of gratitude in my eyes. What kind of people were these? Save a man’s home and family and then that? Just the best kind.

Jason Romero is the name of the Cal-Fire fire fighter. He and his crew fought back the flames at my parents house, and then at mine, Sunday and into the morning on Monday.

Here’s a shot of him (taken by another engine crew) taking the flag down, and last night when he and I met for the first time! Thank you all for the kind words, and thank you for your prayers; they are much appreciated! Please keep them coming for the ones still missing and those whose homes are still in danger.

Luckily, the Boegers all made it out of the wildfires safely. Including all of the horses.

It is truly heartwarming to see people helping each other in their time of need, and perhaps more importantly sharing the uplifting message with others to spread positivity.
