Man Fakes Medical Emergency To Propose To His 1st Responder Girlfriend

When two people have been together for a long time, people in their lives naturally start to wonder when they’ll get engaged.

After all, it’s just plain fun to speculate about wedding details, how he’ll propose, and what the ring will look like. Oftentimes, family and friends are even in on the plan, as we saw with this family party that ended with a sweet proposition.

Still, we imagine that even the most prescient folks in Jodi Vincent’s circle were surprised when Mark Edwards, her boyfriend of six years, let them in on his uniquely adorable plan for popping the question.

His idea was to take the classic elements of the proposal — the ring, the bent knee — and combine them with a uniquely personal touch: Jodi’s job as a firefighter. The results? Pretty impressive!

Scroll through the gallery below to see exactly how Mark decided to surprise his heroic fiancee; it’s safe to say that there’s a flame between these two.

Jodi Vincent has been a firefighter for 11 years, and spends her days saving lives and putting out fires with the Highgate Fire Station, part of the West Midlands Fire Service.

She's been with her boyfriend, Mark Edwards, for more than half of that time; the duo have been together for 6 years.

After so many years together, Mark evidently decided that it was time to take the next step: marriage.

But instead of going the traditional route of dinner, roses, and champagne, Mark decided to do something a bit more original.

He called in an emergency to Jodi's department, telling them that he was at the train station, and had a ring stuck on his finger.

You might think this sounds a bit obvious, but stuck rings are a common cause of panicked calls to the police and fire department, and can even be considered a first-aid emergency, according to WebMD.

And don't worry: had there been an actual emergency during Mark's proposal plans, the crew would have immediately fled the scene to help.

Luckily, no calls came in.

Needless to say, Jodi took the call seriously, kitting up as she would for any emergency.

Her fellow firefighters encouraged her; Mark had run his plan by all of her coworkers, and they were in on it from the beginning.

With his inside help, Mark was able to stage a realistic emergency without actually putting anyone in danger, and successfully lured Jodi to his location at the train station.

There, he immediately dropped to one knee.

When Jodi saw her boyfriend kneeling on the floor of the train station, she quickly realized what was really happening.

There was no medical emergency; the only ring in sight was the one that Mark was offering her.

She quickly accepted, to the delight of Mark, her coworkers, and all of the commuters that had stopped to watch.

According to an interview with Metro, Jodie was totally taken in by the set-up for the proposal.

She tells them, "When we got the call we went off in the fire engine as normal, thinking it was a real job – but obviously it was all a set-up, and everyone knew apart from me."

That didn't seem to dampen her enthusiasm for the proposal at all, though she does admit, "I was very shocked…When I cottoned onto what was happening I suddenly came over all shy."

Clearly, Jodi was completely taken by surprise, meaning that Mark achieved exactly what he set out to do.
