Texas firefighter Daniel Gaskey was in a convenience store when he heard a man enter and say, “This is going to be quick and easy, give me the money.”
Like the police officer who saved a choking woman on the highway, or the firefighter who rescued an injured dog in the mountains, Gaskey became a hero that day. The Marine veteran, who served in Iraq from 2005–2006, put his life on the line to stop the robbery.
“I’d like to think that anyone else in that situation would’ve been able to assess and done the right thing too,” Gaskey said.
As seen in the surveillance footage below, Gaskey took down the 19-year-old masked robber, who pulled out a hunting knife at an Exxon Oasis Food Store. The knife is also visible in the chilling video.
Gaskey, who serves at the Mansfield Fire Department, was able to hold the criminal on the ground for 4–7 minutes until police arrived.
The Mansfield Fire Department’s Chief Barry Bondurant praised Gaskey for his bravery saying, “He intervened and made a difference in someone’s life."
At the end of the news clip, the robber is seen in handcuffs as he's escorted out of the store.
