Thrift store shopping is definitely an art that few can master. It involves digging through a sea of clothes, all while keeping an eye out for a hidden gem that will stand out in our ensemble or be a staple to wear over and over.
But master fashionista Jillian Owens takes it a step further.
Rather than purchase her secondhand threads based on what they look like in the store, she picks them out based on the amazing garment that they could be.
Just like our favorite DIY-ers that see past an individual item and instead think about how it can be transformed, she takes clothing items and, through cutting, ruching, belting, and embellishing, makes them into super stylish outfits.
On her blog ReFashionista, she shows her many fans and viewers how to take something humble and using your own creative eye to make it marvelous.

Frugal fashion queen, Jillian Owen, is on a mission to change how we think about fashion.
Concerned with the rise of fast fashion brands that are sacrificing ethics for easy production, she set up a scheme to make amassing a fashionable wardrobe cheaper and kinder.
She began to hunt around thrift stores, finding cloth relics that had good bones despite their size and unflattering shape.
These piece aren't valuable vintage pieces either. Some of the purchases were around $1.
She then begins to hack away, adding new hemlines, waistlines, and dye to create an unrecognizable garment.
Once she's finished, the piece looks brand new, having been completely transformed into something considerably cuter.
She then adds her own shoes and accessories to show has easy it is to create hundreds of cute ensembles with a few resources and a lot of imagination.
Some of her purchases appear completely aesthetically unsalvageable.
But Owens has an eye for turning unpretentious clothing into something extraordinary by adding interesting necklines and her own frippery.
By simply using her sewing skills, she turned cheap clothes into incredibly chic pieces that make statements.
In doing so, she can create a huge wardrobe with the same money that some spend on a single item of clothing.
She even incorporates fabric dying into her alterations, making the garments look particularly different from their unflattering counterparts.
Just looking at these amazing transformations is enough to make us want to run to the thrift store and get rummaging.
Through her many reconstructions, Owens has certainly inspired people to look at clothing and see beyond its face value.
