Neighbors Call It ‘The Best News’ As Georgia Mom Is Arrested In Murder Of Her Toddler Son

A Georgia mother has been arrested for the murder of her own son.

Leilani Simon, 22, was arrested and charged on Monday. She had been considered the prime suspect in the disappearance and death of her 20-month-old son, Quinton Simon.

Simon reported the child missing on October 5. Last week, police confirmed that remains believed to be his were found.

Now that Simon has been arrested and charged, neighbors are starting to speak out. “From the first day it just did not feel right,” Gerri McCusker, who lives near the family, told WTOC.“I was happy. I’m glad that they’ve arrested her. It’s just been been heartbreaking and this is the best news that’s come out of that situation."

All eyes have been on Simon, whose behavior has been strange since her son's disappearance. She's been seen out partying, driving further suspicion that she's responsible. However, she's maintained her innocence.

“I’ve been here everyday since [Quinton went missing]. I’m not running and I’m not hiding,” she told WTOC. “If something comes up that I am at fault, I will take myself to that police station.”
