Steve Burton has decided to clear the air about his relationship, and it was shocking to many fans of him and wife Sheree Burton.
The soap opera actor, known for his roles on General Hospital and Days of Our Lives, took to Instagram to share that though Sheree had recently announced a pregnancy, the child is not his. He explained to fans that the two are separated.
Steve and Sheree met on the set of General Hospital in 1998. They married the following year and share three children together. The news of the separation comes just six months after Steve announced he was let go from his long-running role as Jason Morgan on GH.
Steve shared news of his and Sheree's separation after 23 years of marriage in an Instagram Stories post.
"I wanted to clear something up," he wrote.
"Sheree and I are separated."
"She recently announced that she's expecting her 4th child. The child is not mine," he continued.
"We are still co-parenting our three beautiful kids. We would appreciate privacy at this time. Much luv, Steve."
Sheree and Steve share 18-year-old Makena, 16-year-old Jack, and 7-year-old Brooklyn. She has not publicly commented on the split. There's no indication of who the father of her fourth child is at this time.
Sheree announced the pregnancy in her Instagram story. The 45-year-old mom wrote, "life is full of surprises," as a caption to her cradling her bump. She changed her bio to say "mom of 3 … soon to be 4." She has since removed the latter half of that description.
The family was last photographed together, looking happy and celebratory, during Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is surely a difficult adjustment for Steve, who made another adjustment after being let go from General Hospital in late 2021 after refusing to comply with the show's vaccine mandate.
Steve is now returning to his Days of Our Lives role of Harris Michaels. It was one of his earliest roles, as he first began portraying the character in 1988. His return will be part of the second season of Peacock's spinoff Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem, which premieres on July 11.
