In my mind, most people are naturally kind, empathetic, and compassionate. Most of us want to do something to help those who are in need, or those who are suffering.
Though there are plenty of scientific and medical benefits of being compassionate, many people don't need to be prompted to help others.
In a heartwarming story below, an 11-year-old girl shows the greatest depths of compassion for the most important person in her life — her mom.
Most other girls her age would write lengthy wish lists for dolls and other toys come Christmas, but Bobbie-Mae wrote something quite powerful and poignant in her note to Santa Claus this year.
The present she wanted wasn't something to have for herself — but it was something to pass along exclusively to her mother…

Debby Chalk, 31, from Southampton, England, has lived with Crohn’s disease since 2006.
A pretty rare condition, Crohn’s is a type of inflammatory bowel disease that affects the gastrointestinal tract and can cause severe stomach pain, fatigue, and weight loss.
Debby’s 11-year-old daughter, Bobbie-Mae, is well aware of her mother’s health struggles. This prompted her to pen a touching note to Santa this year, wishing for her mother’s good health and well-being.
Crohn’s and Colitis UK, a charity organization that is battling forms of IBD, posted Bobbie-Mae’s note to Facebook. It has since been seen by thousands of people. It reads:
“Dear Santa,
Please if you can make my mums life better make her not feel ill all the time I would really appreciate it.
Just please!! Make her life more and more better it [hurts] to watch her suffer so please make it better.
If I had one wish in the whole world it would be to help.”
“My daughter gave me her letter to post to Santa last night, and I thought I’d share it with you guys. I was a little bit surprised, as I always feel like I put on a brave face and hide my illness well, but clearly nothing gets past her,” Debby said to Metro UK.
Debby was extremely emotional when she saw her daughter’s letter, and she could only express how proud she was of Bobbie-Mae for being such a kind-hearted, compassionate kid.
