Every girl is someone's daughter, someone's precious little girl — no matter how old. So when I watched this video of young women talking about their bodies, their beauty, and their self-esteem in this way, I didn't know how to feel.
It's no secret that everyone comes in all different shapes and sizes. Unfortunately, not everyone's shape or size is as appreciated as other people's.
These young girls are asked to draw their bodies and talk about their experiences with body image.
“You can pick out all your flaws, and then society does that as well for you,” one girl said. It's shocking how smart and articulate these young ladies are.
Despite what we're so often told, women around the world have begun to declare that they are proud to be who they are, whether they have bigger bodies like these Curvy Kate models, or love to eat cake like pop singer Pink.
According to a report conducted by Common Sense Media, children as young as 5 already express dissatisfaction with their bodies.
Could you imagine a 5-year-old you know dissecting the size of her thighs, thinking her nose was the wrong size, or that she simply wasn't pretty?
Our daughters may seem innocent at that age, but that doesn't mean they aren't affected by the mainstream media's disheartening messages about women.
When the girls were asked to draw pictures of their bodies, this is what they had to say. I couldn't believe it.
SHARE if you think every woman needs to see this!
