When individuals lose people they love, they can express their grief in different ways. But many of us aren't aware that animals can express this kind of sadness too, and in the same ways we do. It's not unheard of for animals such as dogs and horses to get sad when their owners pass away… but did you know that geese are capable of this, too?
One Canada goose in Georgia surprised people by always lingering around the same strip mall, making a mess on the sidewalk. This started happening after her mate was killed in an accident.
These geese mate for life, and rescuers were certain that this was the animal's way of expressing her extreme sorrow — behavior they had never seen before until that moment. They said that she seemed to be taking the loss harder than in most other cases.
Her rescuers named her Juliet because her sad story reminded them of the tragic Shakespeare play.
They have since taken her in, hoping that they will be able to rehabilitate and re-socialize her so that she can thrive in the wild again. They even hope that, during her time at the wildlife rescue center, she will pair up with another Canada goose in their care. This can take up to a year, but the center is hopeful that her broken heart will heal over time.
Please SHARE if you sympathize with this grieving goose, and if you hope she will feel like her old self again soon!
