Man Gets A Strange Phone Call From Town Undertaker And Ends Up Digging His Own Mother’s Grave

Everard Hall had been perfecting his craft for the past five decades… and his craft is digging graves.

One of 12 children, Everard left school after eighth grade to earn money for his large family by working for a mason who made headstones.

One day, Everard received an unexpected phone call from the town undertaker who needed help digging graves. Intrigued by the offer, Everard agreed… and he's been doing it with a passion ever since.

Everard continues to take tremendous pride in his work, using nothing but a pick and shovel to dig each of his graves by hand in the town of Milbridge, Maine.

It doesn't matter who needs a grave: Everard is there for everyone — from loved ones to strangers, young or old, and no matter the reason for their passing. He has even dug graves for his own mother, father, sister, and aunt.

Everard also keeps a photo album of all the graves he has ever dug, along with obituaries for all of the people he has ever helped to bury. Every grave must be perfect, he says.

“I was put on Earth to be a gravedigger,” Everard told correspondent Mark Strassmann. “It's a God-given talent.”
