Grieving Mother Makes Teddy Bears Out Of Fallen Soldiers’ Uniforms

For Lisa Freeman, the healing begins with her hands; when she received the horrible news that her son Matthew had been killed in Afghanistan, she was heartbroken and understandably had no idea what to do next.

Matthew was a proud member of the Marine Corps, so it was a shock to his whole family when they heard that he had been killed in action only nine days into his tour of duty. While his mother took some time to grieve, it wasn't until she held his uniform in her arms that she was suddenly struck with a wonderful idea. She rushed to her sewing machine, and got to work.

After she was finished stitching everything together she looked at what she had made: a beautiful teddy bear using her own son's camouflage uniform. While Matthew was gone, she had certainly came up with a heartwarming way to keep him near to her for the rest of her life.

While the story would usually end there, someone else had heard of this heartbreaking story. With so many homes with missing members who have died in service to our country, Lisa realized she could be a great help in the healing process of so many wounded families.

More and more grieving brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, children, mothers, and fathers came to Lisa with their deceased loved one's camouflage in tow. You can check out Lisa's website if you'd like to learn more about the amazing things she's doing for these amazing families.

It seemed that Lisa had a lot more sewing she needed to do, and every single time she started up that machine she could feel her son Matthew smiling down at her.

When other grieving families heard of what she was doing, they asked her to create Teddy Bears for their departed family members, too.
