When you work in a public-facing role, there are all sorts of things that you see on a daily basis and essentially have to carry with you. If you’re really paying attention, though, there can be things that really open up your eyes to important things happening in the world and, ultimately, your very own community.
Kimberly Cook was working a shift at her grocery store at when she noticed a little girl. There was a section outside the store where they kept leftover food from the day where those in need could come and collect it. The little girl seemed to come around the same time each day to take some food home with her.
Kimberly was perplexed because the 5-year-old girl always showed up on her own and she appeared to be dressed in nice clothing. This left Kimberly wondering what her home situation might be.
She decided to approach the little girl and ask her what her name was, but that just appeared to frighten the girl. She asked Kimberly if she could take some food, and when Kimberly obliged, she quickly filled a bag and ran away.
All of this piqued Kimberly’s interest, so on her next shift, she decided to keep an eye out for the little girl, and when she appeared, Kimberly decided to follow her home from a safe distance.
She followed the girl in her car from a ways back but soon had to get out and follow on foot as she watched her venture down a dark alleyway. It didn’t appear to be the nicest of neighborhoods, but Kimberly was determined to find out the truth.
