We live in an amazing time. With information continually at our fingertips, and friends and family just a text away, humans have never been more connected or informed.
That's why I'm always so shocked to hear stories like this. When babies can survive with only half a heart and paralyzed men can learn to walk again, how can such backwards thinking still exist in our world?
When David and Wani Shaw first received this shocking letter, they couldn't believe what they were reading — and neither could I. Considering this is the 21st century, they never expected to find such sentiments in their community.
But when the happy couple took to Facebook with the letter, they never expected the responses they got. Friends, family, and strangers alike banded together to show them their support and love.
Now, thanks to one ignorant letter sent by an anonymous coward, love has proven to be the most powerful force on Earth.

When David and Wani first met in the '90s, they knew they were destined to be together. Despite coming from very different worlds — Alabama and Liberia — the two fell in love, married, and gave birth to three beautiful children.
The happy family settled in West Homewood, AL — where, not long ago, they opened Magic City Sweet Ice. Everyone in the community was excited for their friendly service and delicious Italian ice — all except for one hateful resident.
One day, while sorting through Magic City's mail, David came across an anonymous letter. David and Wani were shocked by its hateful content.
Without a return address or signature, the couple had no way to respond directly to the sender. Instead, David took to Facebook, hoping his response would be read by the anonymous author.
In response to the ugly hate mail, friends, family, community members, and strangers poured forth to show David and Wani their love and support.
As for the happy couple, their business — and love — continue to thrive. They prove everyday that love will always overpower hate.
