Three years ago, two best friends made a pact — a very strange pact to many outsiders, but to them it made perfect sense. When British soldier Kevin Elliot left for war in Afghanistan, his best friend Barry Delaney agreed that if Elliot was killed during war, Barry would wear a bright, tacky woman's dress to the funeral. Of course, much of the pact was just a joke — but when tragedy struck, Barry knew what he had to do. Private Elliott died in a Taliban ambush in Afghanistan.
The photos below show Barry, in that ridiculous dress, honoring his best friend.

Barry knew what he had to do -- and the more ridiculous, the better.

Everyone who attended the funeral knew about the pact.

I admire him so much for being so committed to his fallen friend.

The Guardian UK reports that Delaney's recollections of the service are scant, but he remembers Elliott's 22-year-old sister, Kirsty, hugging him hard. He also remembers Elliott's grandmother, Margaret, squeezing his hand, telling him everything would be all right.
A bright green dress, neon pink socks and a whole lot of pride and courage.
