HGTV star Tarek El Moussa has had an interesting few years. First came his publicized divorce from Christina Haack, who then went on to marry and divorce Ant Anstead. Tarek is also a cancer survivor, being declared cancer-free in 2019 after years battling the diagnosis.
Things have also looked up in his relationship with Heather Rae Young, who's one of the stars of Selling Sunset. The two met in July of 2019 while they were both out boating, and they started dating soon afterward.
They also moved pretty quickly. About four days after they started dating, they moved in together. For many couples, putting their relationship in the fast lane like that is a recipe for disaster. But Tarek and Heather made it work and seem happier than ever. But there's one thing Heather isn't rushing — and that's having kids.
And that might be hard to believe. Not only did they move in early, but they also said "I love you" just days after dating. It seems risky, as Tarek has kids — and it's important not to rush into love with children from another relationship. But Heather seems to bond very well with his kids, Taylor and Brayden.
Tarek did take a little bit of time to address the relationship with his fans, most of whom seemed quite happy that he found someone so compatible. "After more than 3 years on my own I'm so PROUD to say that this beautiful, sweet and talented young lady is my girlfriend!" he wrote on Instagram. But that's not the only thing he said about Heather.
"I'll be honest and say I never thought I would meet someone special in my life after the last three years," he said. "Then…out of the blue @heatherraeyoung walked into my life. The first time I saw her smile she 'did that thing to my tummy' and I knew right away I needed to get to know her. So I asked her out! She said yes."
"In life you can't predict the future!" Tarek continued. "I couldn't predict divorce! I couldn't predict two cancers! I couldn't predict my back injury! You just never know what tomorrow brings. I just want to let the world know I met someone special that makes me want to be a better man."
The two held an engagement party in April, which means their wedding is likely not too far off. That said, they already have had the "kids" talk, and according to Heather, it seems like a real possibility in the future. Just not right now.
"We never know what's going to happen in our future, but right now I'm so happy being a bonus mommy… you know, you never know!" she said, per TooFab. While she seemed happy over the idea, she admitted that she currently has "way too much going on to have a baby." And that's the truth. Not only does she have a hit show, but she's getting married.
One thing's for sure — Heather and Tarek have already talked about the idea of children with Heather's "bonus" kids. "We occasionally talk about it, like, 'What would you guys think if we had another baby?' or 'Would you want a boy or a girl?'" Heather told Us Weekly. So that means it's still on their radar.
But she still gave a similar answer when questioned further. "We don't know where life's gonna take us and we don't know where we're going to be in a year," she said. "And right now, I'm just so focused on being a bonus mom and so focused on my career." No matter what, she seems really happy with the direction her life is going.
Even Heather seems surprised by how different Tarek has been from the other men she's dated in the past. "It's funny because when we were taking these photos, our photographer said that she loved to capture us because 'we actually like each other.' And I'm not at all saying we're perfect but I do think this is the first time in my life that I not only love the man I’m with but I genuinely really like him," she said in an Instagram photo shoot caption. "There's a difference!"
As Heather told Us Weekly, it's possible that a baby will come when the rest of her world calms down a bit. But right now, she knows it'll be hard to make the time to devote to a newborn.
"I don't think I could fit one more thing into my life. And I know that if I had a baby, I would be laser focused on the baby. It's just not right now," she admitted.
But she made sure to mention that Tarek's kids are already such a big and important part of her life. And judging on social media photos, her love for Taylor and Brayden seems to be legit.
"We've been really close from day one," she said. "Tarek and Taylor have a really special bond. It was important that he was really honest with her when he met me and really told her how he felt about me and that I was going to be coming into their lives. And she was ready to have me in her life."
Even if her career continues to take over, it's OK if Tarek and Heather decide that a baby isn't just in the cards. They've already created such a happy family that they don't need a baby to be truly united. Tarek and Heather seem to complement each other perfectly, and their wedding will definitely be one to remember.
