Reverend Patrick Hamrick couldn't believe what he found in the collection plate one day. There were stacks of envelops with donations from parishioners, but only one envelop stood out amongst the rest.
"It rose out among the stack of envelopes that were on the table," Hamrick told Local 12 news.
The small envelop had a handwritten message written on the front. "Please don't be mad, I don't have much. I'm homeless. God bless," the message read.
Hamrick couldn't believe it. Inside he found a nickel, a dime, and three pennies. The total was a mere 18 cents, but to the reverend it was worth everything.
For the reverend this was what the spirit of church and giving was all about. It's not about how much you can give, it's about the act of giving. The small donation was anonymous but Hamrick came to the news to help find him.
In fact, after this segment aired, the homeless man left a voice message with the church. Hamrick arranged for the man to get food a soup kitchen and met up with him.
"The gift was between him, the church and God," Hamrick said.
