Cop Approaches A Homeless Man. What He Says? I’m SPEECHLESS!

Despite all the negative stories about the police, they do keep our communities and families safe and sometimes do so in very surprising ways.

Meet Sgt. Steve Wick. He heads up a small unit inside the Houston Police Department called the Homeless Outreach Team. Not only does he patrol the streets, he also befriends the homeless and tries to get them into housing. To date, Wick has helped move more than 400 people off the streets and into temporary or permanent housing since 2011.

"All these folks in the street are not bad," Wick says in the video. "These are people that need somebody to talk to, somebody that cares about them, become their advocate and help them get off the street."

But don't just take his word for it. Several of the people he's helped get off the streets have nothing but praise for the officer.

"I see him just about every day, and he always stops and says, 'Hi,'" one homeless man said in the video. "That doesn't happen very often with other cops. It means a great deal, because at least somebody out here cares, you know? Someone in a uniform cares."
