When 11-year-old Mykel Lewis stood in front of his elementary-school peers to participate in the school's talent show, he had no idea he was about to become an internet sensation.
The fifth grader seemed slightly nervous at first; standing in front of your schoolmates is the stuff of nightmares for some people, but when Lewis took his first breath, the crowd was instantly enraptured.
As the young boy progressed through the song, the audience became more and more enthusiastic, even construction crews working on the building stopped to cheer the boy on. The song, originally written and performed by Dolly Parton, has always been known for being incredibly challenging to singers of all sorts, but this little boy seemed to belt it out with an ease, talent, and maturity that seem way beyond his years.
Singers like Whitney Houston have added their chops to the famous song, adding their own flavor to the mix and making it their own. This boy certainly is now a member of that elite group of performers.
According to school officials, Lewis dreams of performing on America's Got Talent and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. And with talent like this, we will not be surprised in the least to see him there soon.
