1. Sprouts

With just a canning jar and some sprouting seeds, you can scratch store-bought sprouts off your shopping list for good! Fill a jar with 2/3 cup of your sprouting seed of choice, then fill it halfway with water. Move it to a dark spot and let it soak overnight. The next morning, remove the lid, place a piece of screen on top, and pour out the water. Place your jar on a sunny ledge, rinse it with water daily, and soon you'll have fresh sprouts!
2. Herbs

In a bright window, herbs can grow all year-round, bringing a burst of green to the room and spicing up your meals. Basil, oregano, sage, rosemary, and many other herbs can all be grown indoors. For cute planters, stop by a thrift store or reach into your cupboards for old tea cups, or maybe a Mason jar.
3. Succulents

Succulents are resilient and low-maintenance, making them perfect for the great indoors. There are tons of planter options, but I think this eggshell garden is adorable. When preparing a meal, carefully crack just the top of the eggs. Rinse them well, pour in some soil or compost, and plant your succulents. They'll thrive in any low-light windowsill.
4. Potatoes

Did you know that potatoes can regrow themselves? For your own personal potato patch, just cut a potato in half, insert three toothpicks, and rest it in a shallow vase of water. Soon enough, the potato will begin to grow roots and stems. Once the stems have grown, gently pluck them off and place them in their own shallow dish of water. When their roots are long enough, plant them in soil and watch your potato vines grow!
5. Bulbs

To grow bulbs with only a vase and some water, first chill your bulbs for at least five weeks. Then, fill a forcing vase just below the cup where the bulb will rest. Place the bulb in the cup, growth side up, so the base is barely touching the water. Place the vase in any sunny windowsill and watch as your bulbs begin to grow!
6. Romaine Lettuce

Romaine lettuce is another self-regenerating plant. To regrow a head of this tasty lettuce, stick the crown end in water — rinsing the crown and changing the water daily — and soon, new leaves will begin to grow. Never buy a bag of romaine lettuce again!
7. Ferns

Ferns are one of many houseplants that do very well indoors. In low light and a moderate temperature, their lush green fronds will bring life to your room all year-round. Plant them in a vintage pot or a pretty jar for even more zest.
8. Tomatoes

I was surprised to learn that tomatoes can be grown indoors — but apparently, they really thrive inside! In a six-inch pot, pour in good potting soil, a seed starter mix, and fertilizer. Drive in a plant stake, plant the seed, and voila: windowsill tomatoes! Bye-bye expensive, tasteless store-bought tomatoes!
9. Green Onions

Here's yet another veggie that magically regenerates! Prop some green onion stems in a canning jar, fill it with water until the roots are covered, then place them in a sunny spot. Soon, aromatic green leaves will start to grow back, which can be snipped and used for garnish. You can also replant the bulbs.
10. Radishes

The radish is one of the easiest veggies to grow indoors. All they need is a small pot with drainage at the bottom. Plant the seeds, place the pot in a well-lit area, then get ready for some tasty spring dishes!
11. Citrus

Yup, you're seeing that correctly! You can grow lemons, limes, and oranges inside your house or apartment! The best pick for homegrown citrus is of the dwarf variety, that way it won't grow too large. Just plant it in a good soil, make sure the pot has sufficient drainage, and place it in the sun. Soon enough, you'll be picking your own fruit right from the comfort of your kitchen!
12. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera plants are another very resilient form of flora. It needs full sun and very little watering, and it has a whole slew of wonderful uses. Treat burns or cuts, ease eczema and psoriasis flare-ups, even use it to remove your eye makeup! It's a helpful and beautiful little plant that can be grown easily indoors.
