James Dean’s Advice In This Interview Months Before His Death Is Nothing Short Of Haunting

James Dean: he only had 24 years on this Earth, but he's still a legend. He's the only actor to have received two posthumous Academy Award nominations. He died in the prime of his life and career on September 30, 1955, and that death shattered many fans' hearts.

While he was filming the movie Giant one day, he left straight from the set, cowboy hat and all, to give a quick interview. The eerie part about this is that they speak about the very thing that killed him in the end: reckless driving. Dean used to race cars, yes, but only on the race track. He knew the consequences of carelessness on the highways, and he warns viewers about those very consequences.

Watching this clip is bittersweet. You get to see exactly why so many people fell in love with this rebel… his charm, his gentle voice, his undeniable aura of cool. But knowing the tragedy that comes so soon after this interview occurred, just about two months to the day, simply makes you wonder why people have to take such foolish risks in life, and wonder what kind of things this young talent could have accomplished with the rest of his life.

It's no wonder that James Dean is still admired by so many, just over 60 years after this whirlwind of events occurred.
