There's no denying that a flower is a work of art all on its own. With so many colors, shapes, and patterns, each flower is like a little masterpiece created by nature. And as a bonus, they often smell wonderful, too!
It's why so many artists use flowers, and nature in general, as inspiration for their artwork. While some like to create painted or drawn versions of the real world, like artist Ann E. Wolf, others use pieces of nature itself to create their work, like the artist who creates stunningly detailed images using nothing but natural materials.
Spanish artist and illustrator Jesuso Ortiz, though, combines the two.
Taking his inspiration from the colors and shapes of the flowers in his garden, he builds images around them, turning the blooms into all kinds of new things. A rose becomes a ruffled skirt, and a marigold becomes a woolly sheep with the addition of a few careful lines.
Ortiz's artwork also doesn't seek to hide or diminish the flowers at all. Instead, by showing them to us in an unexpected way, we can see how beautiful they really are.

Using flowers from his garden, Spanish artist Jesuso Ortiz creates these charming, funny drawings in which the flowers become part of the image, but in delightfully unexpected ways.
Depending on the flower and the inspiration, his style ranges from cartoony and simple to more realistic and glamorous.
Ortiz likes to make his audience see everyday items, in this case flowers, in new ways.
And seeing them in these new ways helps us see how amazing the flowers really are.
Some of his drawings are downright silly, like this bug-eyed chicken.
While others have a timelessly chic and stylish look, like this flapper-inspired lady.
Sometimes, he digitally overlays drawn elements over the flowers for a different effect.
He's also always pushing himself to imagine the flowers in more and more new ways. So an umbrella might be an unexpected choice for this marigold, but you can see how it actually totally works!
This piece pays homage to influential Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, who was known for wearing colorful flowers in her hair.
Other times, he foregoes an actual object altogether and instead creates a beautiful abstract design like this.
There are also times when a flower lends itself to a few different ideas. The delicate pink petals of a lily make perfect rabbit ears…
But they also make for a stylish, Tinker Bell-esque skirt!
Sometimes he also revisits ideas, like a rose as a skirt, and creates a new image with an entirely different feeling.
But no matter the style or the subject, Ortiz's pictures are always charming and sweet, and a beautiful new way to look at all kinds of flowers.
And flowers aren't all he uses to create his charming works of art.
