Jinger Duggar Vuolo is opening up about her family in a big way in her new book, Becoming Free Indeed. Jinger covers a lot of tough topics, including her brother Joshua Duggar's arrest and conviction on child pornography charges.
Jinger also confronts a lot of the rules and lessons she learned as a child and reveals she has new stances on birth control and alcohol.
Jinger recently explained to People that she understands dating in a new way now. As she put it, "I would look at people who are dating and think, 'Oh, they are setting themselves up for a life of disaster because this can't lead anywhere good.'"
She admitted to finding some of her past lessons and rules funny now. "I've seen more people honor God — and live a very beautiful life — who have dated, and sometimes even better than courtship," she explained. "I could be so consumed with that — with having a chaperone, with not kissing before you're married, and not holding hands before you're engaged. All of these things that I had set up for myself that now I kind of laugh at."
Jinger also shared that she's still religious and that she spends a lot of time consulting the Bible to have her own relationship with the text. "On every topic, I have had to come back and say, 'Well, what does God's word actually say?'" she said. "The Bible is very clear about drinking, and it simply says that alcohol is not a sin. Jesus made wine at a wedding."
Jinger also opened up about her brother Joshua Duggar's conviction on child pornography charges. While speaking to Good Morning America, she explained, "It's hard to talk about … I know that that's a whole other thing. It is difficult to talk about."
Jinger continued, "I talk a little bit about that in the book and how my heart just breaks for the victims and their families and also for all the trail of pain that's been left behind."
She added that she and her brother haven't spoken and said, "I think the best thing I can do is just pray for him."
Jinger also told Fox News, "That’s something that is still just so difficult for me to talk about. And my heart breaks for the victims and their families. And at the same time, I'm just so grateful for the justice system. I'm grateful that justice is being served. It's just so heartbreaking."
