Kate Winslet’s First Screen Test For ‘Titanic’ Is Truly Magical

Titanic was the first-ever film to gross more than $1 billion at the box office, topping off at $1.84 billion upon its initial release, and $2.18 billion after its 3D version released in 2012. No movie makes that much money unless it's really, really good. What's the first thing you need to make a good movie? Good actors.

Kate Winslet, the movie's female protagonist, Rose, was only 19 when she was cast in the role. I don't know about you, but I could barely talk in front of a small classroom when I was that age, let alone with a full film crew and extras watching. Even for an experienced actress, this is a daunting, yet very exciting, task to take on. Director James Cameron knew that she had that certain spark to pull it off, and that audiences around the world would be able to connect with her genuine smile and performance.

This is the very first screen test that the crew shot with Winslet. Although it's not with Leo DiCaprio, you can see why Cameron chose her for the huge role. She is the perfect pick for this epic love story that caught the hearts of so many around the world.

I also always find it so fascinating to see the behind-the-scenes processes for movies, and the fact that a different actor, in this case Jeremy Sisto, was so close to playing the role of Jack? The movie could have been totally different! Imagine how many other times this happened for your favorite movies.
