Kim Kardashian opened up about her struggle with psoriasis, and fans love it.
Kim was diagnosed with psoriasis back in 2011. She's always been open about her experience with the condition, even though some people still misunderstand how it works.
In 2019, a media outlet called one of Kim's psoriasis flare-ups a "bad skin day." She clarified that it was, in fact, psoriasis all over her face. Then she took things a step further and shared a series of photos and videos about her latest flare-up.
"I am super desperate with my psoriasis," she said in one video. So she went to a "Chinese herbalist" for help. She has also tried a range of other treatments, including detox smoothies and light therapy. Kim also shared selfies of the affected spots on her legs and face.
Millions of people suffer from psoriasis across the US, and many of them are relieved that Kim is speaking publicly about the condition. Fans praised her on social media — and some even offered their own tips and tricks.
Kim Kardashian is not exactly famous for her flaws. Instead, she's made a career out of making every inch of her body as close to "perfect" as possible.
But makeup and airbrushing aside, Kim is human. She deals with frustrating skin problems just like everyone else.
One specific problem that Kim deals with regularly is psoriasis. She experiences psoriasis all over her body and face.
In 2019, she suffered a significant breakout on her face that captured the attention of the press.
Rather than downplay the condition, Kim decided to open up about it even more to her fans.
She posted a series of photos and videos to Instagram about her ongoing battle with psoriasis. In one photo, you can see the inflamed spots all over her legs.
"Sexy," she joked in the caption.
She also shared the many remedies that she's been using to attempt to get rid of her flare-ups for good. She's been going to a "Chinese herbalist," who gave her a "nasty" drink to consume twice a day.
"Hopefully this works. We'll see in six weeks," Kim said.
Also, she's been changing up her diet to try to improve the condition from the inside out. She's "trying it all," which includes drinking a "blueberry detox smoothie."
And Kim even undergoes light treatments, which she called "my new best friend." Light treatments involve exposing the skin to UVB rays to slow down the growth of affected skin cells.
Kim then shared a selfie of her psoriasis-ridden face. The photo shows some brown spots on her face, with a caption that jokingly reads, "Psoriasis is the s***ts."
She quickly clarified with a follow-up photo that the brown splotches are "just herbal ointment" on top of the psoriasis spots.
Not s***!
Kim first opened up about her psoriasis diagnosis publicly in 2011 on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Kim's mom, Kris Jenner, was also diagnosed with psoriasis at age 30, so it runs in the family.
Fans applauded the reality TV star for being so open about the condition. She's challenging the myth that celebrities don't have to work to maintain the illusion of "perfection."
And she's also spreading awareness about an incredibly common and challenging condition.
There is no cure for psoriasis — just ways to manage and prevent flare-ups. People with psoriasis are at greater risk for a range of other diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, and psoriatic arthritis.
As many as 7.5 million Americans suffer from psoriasis, according to the National Psoriasis Foundation. Many people were happy to see someone with a platform as large as Kim's speak up about it.
Fellow sufferers shared their own favorite remedies with the star, ranging from prescribed ointments to cannabis oil to baking soda. Like Kim, a lot of people are desperate for relief!
Dealing with psoriasis isn't easy. But thanks to Kim, her fans feel much less alone with the struggle.
