King Charles Says Harry And Meghan Can Stay At Frogmore If They Attend His Coronation

King Charles is apparently trying very hard to extend an olive branch of sorts to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

As he prepares for his coronation, it seems that Charles is doing his best to make sure both of his sons and their families are present at his big day. After initial reports suggested that Charles told Harry and Meghan to permanently move from their England home, Frogmore Cottage, other sources have claimed that the monarch is now willing to let his son's family stay in their home if they show up at the May event.

Harry and Meghan owned the home until March 2023. They had previously used £2.4 million (about $2.8 million) of taxpayer funds to refurbish the home, but the couple paid back the amount in full after they moved to the United States.

It took a bit of time to get the home up to standard, but the couple was ready to move in for good in April 2019. The home previously had 10 bedrooms that were used as offices, but Harry and Meghan had it restored to a single-family residence with five bedrooms.

Harry and Meghan spent a lot of time at the home and used it as the backdrop for their engagement photos. The two also hosted their wedding reception at Frogmore House, which is on the same estate.

Frogmore Cottage was originally built by Queen Charlotte for one of her daughters.

Harry and Meghan opted to turn the home into a five-bedroom residence and added their own yoga studio.

Princess Eugenie moved into Frogmore Cottage with her own family in November 2020. They moved out in 2022 to take up residence in the larger Nottingham Cottage, though they had reportedly hoped to move into Adelaide Cottage before William and Kate took it instead.

In early March 2023, it was reported that Prince Andrew might be made to move into Frogmore Cottage, something that he seemed to find insulting. Author Christopher Andersen told the New York Post, "It doesn’t surprise me at all that Andrew would be reluctant to move out of his baronial digs at Royal Lodge and into much more modest quarters at Frogmore Cottage."

He continued, "His late mother Queen Elizabeth II doted on Andrew and indulged his every lavish whim. Unfortunately for the Duke of York, there’s a new sheriff in town. Right now, Charles is making good on his promise to streamline the monarchy by cutting expenses. I’m sure Andrew will not be the only member of the royal family whose belt will be tightened by the new monarch."
