Lake Tahoe Resident Stays To Protect Home He’s Owned For 4 Decades From Caldor Fire

The residents of South Lake Tahoe have been evacuated as the Caldor Fire draws dangerously close to the scenic neighborhood. Fire trucks line the empty streets as firefighters work hard to divert the fire away from the neighborhood, as they've been unable to contain the raging wildfire so far.

One man has decided to stay behind to try to protect his home of four decades from the flames. Joey Anderson and his dog Echo are staying home with sprinklers on, ready for anything.

"We raised all eight of our children right here," Joey Anderson told CBS Sacramento.

"I want to go but I also want to stay," he continued.

"I know once I leave, I can't get back in. So that's the main thing, the reason I've been holding out."

There are very few people riding out the fires at home. Since many people heeded the evacuation orders, it allows firefighters and law enforcement to focus on containing the spread and saving these neighborhoods without the added distraction of trying to save people who refuse to evacuate.
