While Texas copes with torrential rainfall and disastrous flooding, something a little spookier is going on.
Meteorologist Mike Collier posted some eerie photos of UFOs or "unidentified flying objects" hovering in the Texas skies. Many who saw the photos believed they were alien spaceships.
“Alien ships hiding in clouds,” wrote one Facebook user.
“Yep those are covers for spaceships!” wrote another.
“Those don’t even look real! They are kinda scary,” posted a third.
While many people are skeptical of the existence of extraterrestrials, to others it only seems logical that with an infinitely expansive universe, there must be life out there. For example, the discovery of this suitcase with bizarre alien maps and schematics has stirred much debate over the subject.
The UFOs in these photos are said to be lenticular clouds which form when powerful wind flows over large landmasses like mountainous regions. Nevertheless, for anyone who was a fan of The X-Files or at least familiar with its opening credits (they always spooked me as a kid!), you may remember the “cloud-shaped spacecraft” quite vividly.
Though lenticular clouds are common in certain places, they certainly are not in Texas.
“They’re a pretty rare occurrence because you would need the moisture in the air to be at the right relative humidity as it passes over the mountains … and you need the right strength of wind for that wave pattern to occur behind the mountain,” said Weatherzone meteorologist Rob Sharpe.
