Terrifying footage shared by the Ohio Highway Patrol displays a driver being flung from his car in January. But, the 26-year-old driver, Cleveland resident Edward Wallace, was able to walk away with only minor injuries.
Wallace was driving “too fast” for the icy weather and lost control of his 2005 Ford Explorer, according to cleveland.com.
As Wallace’s car went across four lanes and crashed into the right barrier, he was thrown from the vehicle. He laid on the highway for several seconds before he was able to stand up.
The Ohio Highway Patrol shared the video to encourage other drivers to follow precautions when driving. Wearing a lap/shoulder seat belt, for example, reduces the risk of death from a crash by 45 percent, according to statistics from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
“Crashes like this one from January serve as reminders to be careful when driving in winter conditions. Slow down, pay attention, leave distance between yourself and other vehicles and always wear your safety belt,” the Ohio State Highway Patrol wrote on Facebook along with the clip.
