Melissa Joan Hart Reveals She Contracted COVID-19 After Kids Went To School Without Masks

Melissa Joan Hart is the latest celebrity to come forward and share she has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a video shared on Instagram, Melissa reveals her frustration with herself for getting lax with safety measures as things started to return to normal. She revealed that her children were not required to wear masks at school, and she suspects that's how they may have gotten sick. She also revealed that this was breakthrough COVID, as she is fully vaccinated.

So far, Melissa says just she and one of her children have gotten sick. She urged others to do what they could to stay safe, even if they've been vaccinated.

Melissa Joan Hart revealed that she tested positive for COVID-19 in an Instagram video documenting her experience.

"I am vaccinated and I got COVID and it's bad," she revealed to her followers.

"It's weighing on my chest. It's hard to breathe," Melissa admitted.

"One of my kids, I think, has it so far. I'm praying that the other ones are OK."

Melissa is mom to 15-year-old Mason, 13-year-old Braydon, and 8-year-old Tucker.

Melissa admitted that she and her family were vigilant at first, but like many, they found themselves slipping up.

"I'm mad, really mad," she said. "Because we tried and we took precautions and we cut our exposure by a lot. But we got lazy and I think as a country we got a little lazy."

Melissa also expressed her frustration with the fact that masks were optional at her children's schools.

"I'm really mad that my kids didn’t have to wear masks at school," she said.

"I'm pretty sure that's where it came from."

While Melissa didn't say which of her three boys has COVID-19, she made it clear that it wasn't her youngest son while discussing his pride in mask wearing.

"My little one, luckily, wore a mask every day because he was used to it from last year," she said.

"He came home bragging every day, 'Mom, I wore my mask,' and I was so thankful. And now if he does get it I can tell him he was a superhero to those in his classroom because he protected his teacher and his classmates from it."

Melissa got choked up thinking about how bad things could get.

"I just really hope my husband and the other ones don't get it because if someone has to be taken to the hospital, I can't go with them," she said.

"I'm just scared and sad, and disappointed in myself and some of our leaders," she concluded.

"I just wish I'd done better, so I'm asking you guys to do better. Protect your families. Protect your kids."

"It's not over yet," she emphasized.

"I hoped it was, but it's not, so stay vigilant and stay safe."

Many people took to Melissa's comments applauding her realness in taking some blame for what was happening in her family and encouraging others to be smart.

"Oh, I feel this in every fiber of my being," one fellow mom wrote.

"My sweet 11 year old-so close to being able to be vaccinated, wanted to be vaccinated- got covid 2 weeks ago. I also got comfortable and let him play with friends without a mask. We have to forgive ourselves though, we do the best we can."

Some were also critical of Melissa. Some felt she was trying to push an ideology, while others felt that blaming maskless schools didn't make sense when the family had recently visited Disney World.

"You probably caught it at Walt Disney World rather than school," one fan said.

"My family had it too. Lots of rest and sleep and fluids. Just don't push yourself."
