While we anxiously wait for April the giraffe to give birth at the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York, it seems like other pregnant giraffe in zoos across the country have decided to steal her thunder!
One of the animals at the Memphis Zoo in Tennessee caught visitors totally by surprise when she went into labor before their very eyes. What a treat and an exhilarating experience!
The way these massive animals give birth is fascinating: they push out their babies standing up, and the fall is crucial to encouraging the newborn to take his first breath and walk around.
But the visitors were still stunned by the moment the baby hit the ground, as they all screamed when they heard the loud thud.
One visitor, Stacy Helms, caught the entire birth on camera, including the visitors' reactions. She told Fox13 about the experience, stating: "I always am overwhelmed with God's design, so that was my first thought. So amazing to be there and see that.”
The little one was up and about in no time, taking his first wobbly steps with mom's help!
The Memphis Zoo is thrilled with the birth, and says that the mother and her baby are now bonding!
