When Eloise Barnette mysteriously became ill, doctors told her family to prepare for a burial. Funeral arrangements for the Grove City, Ohio, mother were in the works when something took place that even her doctor calls miraculous.
Everything started one day when Eloise's husband was unable to wake her up from her sleep. She was taken to the hospital, where her health started to completely spiral out of control.
“One organ after another started failing,” said her daughter, Beverly Dale. “They’d fix one and something else would go wrong.”
Dr. Matt Wooten ruled out everything from brain infection to stroke to meningitis. They had no idea what was wrong with her and could only speculate. On November 8, 2016, the family took her ventilator out. As they were saying their final goodbyes, Beverly noticed the unthinkable.
“We stayed there and just waited for her to go,” she said. “We just kept praying. She mouthed ‘I love you’ and I knew she was in there.”
Dr. Wooten was shocked when, two days later, Eloise was alert, present and talking.
“Everybody’s definition of miracles are different, but it’s a miracle to me because I’ve never seen it happen,” the doctor said.
Now, Eloise is not only talking, she is walking, two things doctors never believed she would be able to do again.
“They didn’t see any chance of me coming out of this and they thought it would be best to just let me go,” Eloise said. “I have a lot of fight in me and it keeps me going.”
Naturally, Eloise's daughter is the most grateful that her mother is alive today.
“The thing that made the biggest difference is her attitude and her determination, and that’s my mom,” Beverly said.
