Timmy and Lassie, Wilbur and Mr. Ed, and John and Garfield are all examples of people who had profound relationships with their pets. Animals, be it a dog, cat, horse, or even a fish can illuminate humans’ lives in a very powerful way.
For instance, they do a great job at making us laugh. Just take a look at this hilarious kitty trying to sway his sleeping dog friend into giving him all of his biscuits.
But a case of the giggles isn’t all a pet can provide. Their affection is also extremely enriching as well.
Case in point, this soldier who rescued an abused cat while serving in Afghanistan. The tender bond they built together helped the soldier stay grounded when two of his friends were tragically killed during combat.
Being that pets are so important to their humans, it’s tragic when one goes missing.
This is exactly what happened to poor Sandy Valenti, a Long Island resident whose precious cat, Roscoe, went missing. He was missing for two weeks until one day — Mother’s Day, in fact — neighbors heard cries coming from a dried-up well…
Residents first heard soft meows coming from the bottom of a 10-foot-deep well early evening last Mother’s Day.
They weren’t sure if it was Roscoe or not at first, but as soon as Sandy called his name, “he just started meowing like crazy as soon as he heard my voice,’’ she told the New York Post.
About a dozen firemen arrived at the scene to find Sandy and her neighbors gathered around the grated well. They gate was pried off and firefighter, Danny Leboff, climbed into the hole and scooped the up ole’ Roscoe. “The cat was ready to go, that’s for sure,” said Fire Chief John Madden.
Madden also has his own theory on how Roscoe got stuck — he climbed through a curb-side drain.
“Everyone was clapping and cheering when the cat came out. It was such a happy Mother’s Day. Everyone’s a cat lover,” said a neighbor, Emma Ryan.
“Considering that’s all I said I wanted for Mother’s Day, it was the perfect gift,” Sandy said tearfully.
“It was overwhelming,’’ she said. “I never expected to see him again.”
