When I was a little girl, I used to be obsessed with tiny things. I used to wish so badly that little toy giraffes and lions would come to life so I could keep them in my pocket with me wherever I went. I loved those little Polly Pocket toys, and I had a collection of those teeny tiny glass animals that they sell at Hallmark stores.
One of my favorite exhibits at The Art Institute of Chicago was the Thorne Miniature Rooms that brought you through different time periods and places throughout history with scale models of interiors. From English drawing rooms from the 1600s to Midcentury Modern American rooms, these tiny rooms draw a huge crowd of people of all ages on a daily basis.
Elaine Shaw has been around tiny rooms her whole entire life. When she was a little girl, two of her uncles built her two very different dollhouses. Then, her mother worked for a dollhouse manufacturer. So, when her daughter asked her if she could have a dollhouse, she was happy to oblige… but she wasn't about to make her any regular dollhouse.
Shaw constructed an intricately detailed, modern dollhouse, and called it a MiPad. The sleek, ultra-contemporary designs are so much fun, and could function as a toy or a decoration for an adult home. You've really got to see this if you've ever loved teeny things! You can even get some of your own at her MiPad Etsy page!
