When it comes to movie theatre etiquette, we all know the basics: Don't attend if you're suffering from a cough, arrive on-time (so you aren't wandering through the aisles during previews), and keep your opinion to yourself until the end of the movie.
Perhaps most importantly: Turn you phone off, and don't text people during the movie! This seems to be the golden rule that some people tend to forget.
But in the film era of the 1910s, movie-goers faced different challenges than we face today. First off, cell phones did not exist, meaning that there were no handheld interruptions to content with at the movie theatre.
Also, films were silent, so some hushed talking and commentary was considered totally kosher – though loud whistling was deemed rude.
However, most movie etiquette posters of the era focused on an element of womens' wardrobes that we often forget in the modern world.
