The best way we used to get a bird’s eye view of something was by climbing a mountain, peering through a telescope, or literally strapping a camera onto the back of an eagle.
But today, thanks to Google and their constellation of satellites floating around space, just about anyone can log onto Google Maps and discover something new and exciting from way up above.
Case in point, a recent discovery on Google Maps has revealed a secret in the middle Egyptian desert in the Sinnai Peninsula.
But what is it?
The Sinnai is a dry, sandy, and sparse span of land. Since the 14th century, it has been inhabited mainly by the bedouin, or nomadic desert-dwelling tribes that wear colorful costumes and live by a code that states: "I against my brother, my brothers and I against my cousins, then my cousins and I against strangers.”
Yet, nothing they have done has anything to do with the epic secret that's been unearthed in the burnt Sierra sands of Egypt. Have you ever seen anything quite like this?

This is what was first spotted on Google Maps. What on earth is that?

The 150 worn-out seats are known as "The End of the World Cinema."

The desert theater includes broken screen foundations and a dilapidated building that once housed a projector and generator.

Kaupo Kikkas, the photographer that took these pictures, claims that an eccentric Frenchman with the financial means to create the cinematic oasis built the desert theater in the early 2000s.

The Frenchman brought the original seats and projection equipment from an old cinema theater in Cairo. He then “came back to Sinai, arranged a generator for electricity, and a monstrous tractor to pull up the screen that was like a gigantic sail. And now

Unfortunately, locals didn’t love this idea as much as the Frenchman, and they inconspicuously impaired the generator. Not a single movie was ever screened at this sandy cinema, though it still stands and can be seen on Google Maps.
