José Zamora has been relentlessly job hunting, sending out his résumé and cover letters every single day. He didn't understand why he wasn't getting any type of response. He had the right experience, the right qualifications and was applying to all the right jobs. One day he decided maybe it was his perceived ethnicity that was holding him back, so he decided to change one letter in his name – and went from José to Joe just like that.
One week later, José – or his alter ego, Joe – was a wanted man. He had applied for the same exact jobs with the SAME exact résumé and was finally getting calls back. The sad part is that José's story is not an isolated incident. Many employees cherry pick applicants by their names and don't even bother looking at their experience. Let's try to spread this video to show others that there's nothing to a name and everything to the person behind it.
