Tweezers: honestly, what would we do without them?
So many women (and men!) rely heavily on tweezers for their daily grooming routine. They keep our eyebrows looking perfectly sculpted, our upper lips and chins deceptively hair-free, and sometimes even our nose hairs in check, too!
Tweezers are lifesavers. They're the first thing to go into the travel toiletries bag every time I take a trip longer than a day and a half. Not to mention that they're a very handy first-aid item, and they can act as makeshift tools when our fingers are just too big.
However, we often use them the wrong way, and it could be putting our health at risk! The following nine things on this list should never be done with tweezers.
Do you use your tweezers on a daily basis? Will you be changing your tweezer habits after reading this article?

1. Forget To Clean Them
Tweezers should technically be cleaned with soap, water, and rubbing alcohol after each use. If you're like me and have to tweeze your brows at least once a day in order to keep up, that may seem daunting. It should be perfectly fine to go a few days without going through a full cleaning routine, unless you accidentally draw blood in the process.
If you do, lather them up in antibacterial soap and water, dry them off, and run a cotton ball with alcohol over them to disinfect. Rinse them off one more time and you should be good to go!
2. Over-Pluck With Them
The days of the pencil-thin brow are over! It seems that, as a society, we've learned to accept natural shape above the super-thin look.
Let the natural curve of your brow guide your plucking, and try not to go overboard! You'll look best working with what your mama gave you.
3. Use The Non-Steel Variety On Your Face
If you have sensitive skin, you could run the risk of irritating your skin if you don't choose your tweezers carefully.
Make sure that your tweezers are stainless steel, as that should not irritate any skin. Keeping your skin healthy is well worth the extra few dollars you pay for other metals like nickel.
4. Share Them
According to She Finds, you shouldn't really be sharing your tweezers with your friends unless you're washing them as instructed above. Much like sharing mascara, it's a really great way to transfer bacteria.
5. Use Them On A Bee Stinger
It may seem logical to reach for a pair of tweezers when you have a bee's stinger sticking out of your body, but that's not the case.
According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, the best thing to do is to scrape the stinger away with a credit card or your fingernail if that's all you have on hand (pun intended). You don't want to grab it with tweezers because you could end up squeezing the venom into your body, making matters worse.
6. Throw Away The Plastic Cap
That little plastic cover on the tip of your tweezers will keep them nice, clean, and safe when you aren't using them. Always keep that cap and make sure you replace it on the tool once you're finished grooming!
If you've already thrown it away or your pair didn't come with one, just make sure you get yourself a nice case to keep your tweezers safe.
7. Use The Wrong Type Of Tip
Every tweezer has its purpose. There are extra pointy kinds that are great for first aid — like splinter care — and angled ones that are best for grooming your brows.
There are also some kinds that are incredibly hard to maneuver, like a rounded tip and a flat edge. If you're unsure, for beauty purposes the slanted tip is almost always a good bet!
8. Let Them Get Dull
If you go too long without sharpening your tweezers, they're going to get dull and therefore useless. Some manufactures, like Tweezerman, offer free sharpening services that will keep your implement in good shape.
If your tweezers have been worn beyond repair or are rusty, cut your losses, toss them, and get yourself a new pair.
9. Forget To Put Them Away
This picture of an ancient, broken tweezer shows exactly what can happen if you leave them out at your bedside table or bathroom counter. They're likely to be bumped on the floor where you can step on them. You'll ruin either the tweezers, your foot, or both!
Just keep them tucked away in a safe, clean place instead.
