Residents Help Clean Devastated New York Neighborhood

Michael Davis of Niagara Falls, NY was fed up with seeing the devastation in his neighborhood. He wrote a Facebook plea asking other residents for their help to clean the area, which was filled with overgrown weeds, abandoned homes, and lots of trash.

“A lot of kids are out here running around, having nothing to do, they’re running through fields of garbage or trash, you know, needles and all different kinds of things,” Davis told News 4. “I was frankly tired of it.”

The post struck a chord with residents, as he hoped. Three days after Davis’s Facebook post, several showed up to clean the concerning abandoned homes as well as the sidewalks. Their hard work is clearly demonstrated in the video below. Their effort proves just how much can be done when a community comes together, as was the case with Kansas residents who went above and beyond for two elderly neighbors.

Even Mayor Paul Dyster stopped by to show support and also offered some help since the desperate residents can't do all the work alone.

“We’re going to have our DPW crews come through here and if there are things that they can’t do they don’t have the right tools or equipment, we’re going to try to finish the job for them,” Dyster said. “We’re doing a little bit to help them out but this is mostly just their effort. It’s really heartwarming.”
