Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise's adopted daughter Isabella Cruise opened up about her love for Scientology in 2019.
Isabella "Bella" Cruise wrote a testimonial about her experience in an open letter to members of the church. She had recently finished training to become an auditor (an important role in the Church of Scientology), and she encouraged others to do the same. She says it was "exactly what I needed."
For Bella, the auditor training was life-changing. It fully cemented her faith in Scientology.
"This IS what I had been searching for," she wrote in her testimonial, which was made public by longtime church critic Tony Ortega. "The missing piece. Suddenly, everything began to make sense… The internship, for me, is what made me a Scientologist."
Tom is a high-ranking and highly visible member of the Church of Scientology. He and Nicole also share an adopted son, Connor Cruise, who is a member of the church as well.
Despite reports that Scientology had driven a wedge between the Cruises and Nicole — who left the church long ago — Nicole maintains that she supports her children no matter what.
Isabella Cruise, 26, is Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise's adopted daughter. The two also share Connor Cruise, 24. Nicole and Tom divorced in 2001.
Rumors have long swirled about Nicole's relationship with her two older children. They've both followed in their father's footsteps to become members of the Church of Scientology, whereas Nicole isn't a member.
Nicole hasn't appeared publicly with either child in years, and fans speculated that they've cut her off because of the church.
But in November, Nicole finally opened up about the situation. She explained that she accepts her children no matter what, Scientology and all.
"They are able to make their own decisions. They have made choices to be Scientologists and as a mother, it’s my job to love them," she said.
Isabella, or Bella, has stayed out of the spotlight over the years. Her mother and father are both careful to respect their children's privacy. But now, Bella is speaking out for herself about her close relationship with the church.
She wrote a testimonial about her training as an auditor within the church. An auditor is someone who is extensively trained to help other members through "self-examination" sessions with the help of an electronic device called an E-meter.
The testimonial appeared in a church email that was sent to all members; outspoken church critic Tony Ortega also posted it on his website.
Bella explained how she went through training and an internship, and how it turned out to be "exactly what I needed."
"This IS what I had been searching for. The missing piece. Suddenly everything began to make sense," she wrote.
"I became that annoying girl in the org who would just talk endlessly about how incredible training is and how phenomenal the internship is. I’m sure a few people couldn’t deal just like I couldn’t. But I won’t stop with that because now I KNOW."
"We all need to do this," Bella's testimonial continued.
"It’s hard work. It’s a lot of effort. It’s a few melt downs and running to the bathroom to have a mini episode, but it is worth everything because you will get through."
"This is a gift to yourself and so many others. It doesn’t matter if you aren’t going to be an auditor or aren’t going to join staff."
"If you are going to make it as a being for the long run you NEED this. That’s the truth."
Bella went on to explain that this experience is what cemented her identity in the church.
"The internship, for me, is what made me a Scientologist," she said. "I don’t just believe the tech works now. I know without any doubt that it does."
She then thanked the people who helped her along the way, including Tom and her aunt, Tom's sister Cass Mapother.
"Thank you to my Dad for everything," she wrote. "To Cass. To Tash. I would have drowned in my own problems if you hadn’t been there to sup me or get me through the preliminaries."
"It took a whole family and org to get me here. So thank you to all for the endless support."
Lastly, she thanked "COB," who is the church's chairman of the board, David Miscavige, and the founder of the Church of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard.
So now Bella's stance on Scientology is completely, 100% clear. But given her reluctance to be in the spotlight for long, don't expect her to become a celebrity Scientologist like her dad.
