No matter what age you are, there's no denying that having a dog is one of the best ways to fill your day with love and laughter.
From acting as a protector to newborn babies to being lifelong companions to the elderly, there's really no mystery as to how dogs earned their reputation as "man's best friend."
Here at LittleThings, we love seeing seniors like these retirement home residents still smiling despite any difficult health problems. That's why we had to share the following story of Nala, a five-year-old teacup poodle helping heal seniors' hearts at the Lyngblomsten care center in St. Paul, MN.
Every day when Doug Dawson goes in to work as a trained medications assistant at the nursing home, he brings his dog, Nala, and doesn't see her until the end of the day. As soon as they walk through the front door, the dog heads straight to the elevator and starts to make her rounds as the center's unofficial angel.
"She's here for a purpose. She really is doing God's work." Dawson told KARE 11 of his dog who visits the elderly patients in their rooms on all four floors of Lyngblomsten.
Nala has no formal training as a therapy pet, but instinctively knows to check on the elderly residents and seems to love sitting on their laps and snuggling beside them.
Many of the residents believe this dog is a gift from above — and after seeing this video, I think you'll agree.
