I bet you've seen the news lately, and no matter how you feel about recent events, I think one thing is for sure: we could all use a little good news, a little more kindness, and a little room to breathe.
Not every cop is bad, not all news is bad news. When I read this story about Barbie Henderson and Officer Nissen in Hillview, Kentucky, I couldn't help but smile. Who does this? Let alone, what cop does this?!
Officer Nissen really went above and beyond. Barbie was driving when she got a terrible phone call: her sister had died. Heartbroken and panicked, she turned her car around. In a hurry to get home with her loved ones she began speeding.
Enter Officer Nissen. He didn't reprimand Barbie. He listened. He listened to her story, her cries, her sadness. But it didn't stop there.
He stayed with Barbie. He gave her water on a hot day. He waited with her and spoke with her family members until Barbie's other sister Shonda arrived to pick her up. He didn't keep his distance either, he sat right next to her in the car, consoling her.
When I hear about cops like Officer Nissen, I can't help but think of another cop, Officer Damon Cole, who dresses up as superheroes to mentor young children — even after his coworkers made fun of him.
See the incredible letter of gratitude Shonda wrote to Officer Nissen.

When Shonda arrived at the scene to pick up her grieving sister, Barbie, she took this photograph of the pair together.

But it's the letter Shonda wrote to Officer Nissen that is going viral.
