There is always a special funeral when a member of our police force is laid to rest. When dogs are a part of the team, the treatment is no different and perhaps even more emotional. The Portland Press Herald documents the amazing life of hero dog Sultan, a valued, respected, and loved member of the police force.
Dear Sultan lived a wonderful 13 years and spent most of his life as a part of the Yarmouth Police Department in southern Maine. Dozens of police officers, many of them dog handlers themselves, came out to pay their respects to the old fellow at his final farewell before he headed to the veterinary office to be put down.
It's impossible to get through this one without a few tears, but the warmth it brought my heart was well worth it. Dogs are by far the most selfless and loving creatures on Earth, and it's hard to say goodbye, especially when they have done so much good and touched so many people, as Sultan certainly has. See the video for yourself and witness his beautiful farewell.
