When Instructables user Loblaw discovered a bounty of old vellum maps of the Yukon, she dreamed up the perfect way to put them to good use.

She'd line them around an old lampshade, creating a beautifully decorative living room focal point.

She started her project by cutting her maps into panels.

Then, in order to help these panels align well with her lampshade's curve, she rolled them up and set their shape.

With her map fragments rolled in place, she turned her attention to the lampshade itself.

After finding an old beauty of a shade at a yard sale, this DIY-er got to work stripping off its ribbon and outer fabric layer.

This crafter chose to keep the lampshade's inner fabric intact to protect her maps from ever becoming fire hazards.

One by one, she lined her lampshade with map panels, adhering each in place with a mixture of craft glue and hot glue.

To give her shade a truly cohesive look, she lined each map panel, as well as the shade's upper and lower rims, in ribbon.
