A Florida biologist is America's newest folk hero after saving a 375-pound male black bear from drowning. Officials say the bear was seen roaming a residential neighborhood, evidently in search of food, near Alligator Point, Florida and had to be shot with a tranquilizer gun. Standing 6-and-a-half feet tall, the black bear is one of the most dangerous and deadliest animals on the planet.
After he was hit with the tranquilizer dart, he became angry and bolted into the Gulf of Mexico, just before the drugs kicked in. The bear was vicious and enraged, but became disillusioned and would have drowned. That's when Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission biologist Adam Warwick dove in and pulled off the daring rescue.
