Chopping onions is a far cry from fun. It burns. It stings. It tragically ruins your eye makeup.

Put your cutting board on your stovetop, turn on the vent, and chop away. The vent will suck up all the evil tear-inducing vapors.

Water draws out the vapors. But be forewarned, it may be more difficult to chop the onion after it’s been submerged.

5. Stick with a sweet variety

They're less likely to make you cry

And more likely to leave you feeling spiffy

Yellow, sweet, or Vidalia onions tend to be less harsh than their yellow and white counterparts.
