It's not every day that you hear abound a strange alligator on the news… of course, unless you live in a place like Florida.
Apparently, the same goes for South Carolina!
An orange alligator was recently spotted climbing out of a pond in that state.
As if you wouldn't want to run away screaming at the sight of an alligator, an orange alligator is even more bizarre! Have you ever heard of anything like it?
Surprisingly enough, this isn't as strange as it sounds. There are white alligators, though they're not actually albinos: they are leucistic animals, meaning they have a rare genetic condition that reduces the color pigmentation in their skin.
There are many different theories about why this alligator is a different color than most. People are suggesting that that he may be afflicted by an unusual form of albinism. Others, though, are blaming the riverbed's orange-tinted clay, which can be an overgrowth of algae or pollution.
If you can't help but watch footage of alligators, you'll also be fascinated by this giant gator creeping through a quiet neighborhood in broad daylight.
