On Monday, October 16, 2017, people across the UK woke up to a strange view outside.

Understandably, many were pretty freaked out by the strange color in the sky. Some even called it "apocalyptic."

There's a perfectly logical explanation for the strange phenomenon, though.

According to CNN, the red sky is a mix of two things. Part of it is the result of wildfires in Portugal and Spain. The wind has carried dust, ash, smoke, and sand from those fires over toward the UK. Some of the dust and sand even comes all the way from the Sahara desert.
The remnants of Hurricane Ophelia, which battered Ireland, also affected the color of the sky.

Of course, a totally reasonable explanation doesn't stop the sky from being pretty eerie.

I definitely would have been terrified by a sky that looked like this!

Young and old, people couldn't help but be freaked out by the orange sky.

Some mentioned how other-worldly it looked, pointing out the similarities between the London sky and the new Blade Runner movie with Ryan Gosling, Blade Runner 2049.

One teen even thought she saw a ghost plane in the spooky clouds. Her followers later told her that the plane, which appeared only when she applied a filter to her image, was actually included in the filter itself.
Still, the red sky gave everything such a weird atmosphere that I would be inclined to believe in ghost planes as well!

Have you ever seen a sky like this?
