Note to self: always remember to look through your grandparents' old trunks. You never know what you might find!
Such was the case of Terry O'Neil, who, while perusing his grandmother's trunk in his attic in Hudson Falls, Albany, New York, made an unexpected discovery.
He found a copy of "The Shepherd of Guadalupe" by Zane Grey, an old Western novel.
Normally, a discovery like this wouldn't be so stunning.
That is, until he flipped through the book and found what was taped to the back cover.
The book actually turned out to be an old library book, as noted by the index card taped to it.
The index card also noted that the book was at least 75 years overdue, signed out in 1940, or even earlier.
O'Neil became curious as to how much the overcharge would be for a book like that, but he wasn't the one who would technically be held responsible.
The book was actually signed out to his great uncle Floyd Wright, a man he had never met.
He just knew one detail about his great uncle: the man had been killed by a lightning strike back in September of 1941.
Perhaps that was what stopped Wright from returning the book? We'll never know.
What we do know is that O'Neil decided to take it upon himself to call the Dodge Memorial Library to see about returning the relic.
